The Town of Atlantic Beach has partnered with Carteret County Parks & Recreation to offer beach volleyball (both recreational tournaments and competitive leagues) and beach soccer league tournaments beginning in May and lasting through Labor Day.
Just east of Atlantic Beach is Fort Macon State Park, encompassing 385 acres of pristine beaches, maritime forest and home to Fort Macon, a five-sided Civil War fortress. Learn about the fort’s fascinating history in the museum and historic area, then enjoy the natural beauty of the state park which offers public beach access, a bathhouse and food concessions. During the summer, the park also offers a free concert series for locals and visitors to enjoy.
Local heritage is celebrated at local attractions such as the History Place Museum which is filled with turn of the century and Civil War artifacts and the NC Maritime Museum which gives visitors a glimpse into the rich boating history of the Carolina coast, including artifacts from Blackbeard’s flagship vessel, the Queen Anne’s Revenge. There are many tournaments and festivals throughout the year in the Atlantic Beach area. The annual King Mackerel Fishing Tournament is held every year and awards over $250K in cash and prizes. The Carolina Kite Festival is a unique, two day festival that includes competitions, games, workshops and demonstrations.
Of course, July 4th at the beach wouldn’t be complete without the annual Atlantic Beach Independence Day Celebration, complete with a live band and fireworks. Residents can have a fun day in the sun and then top it off with music, dancing and fireworks in the evening.
In October, people from all over the nation flock to the NC Seafood Festival held on the waterfront in Morehead City. Atlantic Beach boasts an extremely diverse range of housing options - both ocean/sound front and non ocean/sound front. Oceanfront single family homes in Atlantic Beach range from about $950K to approximately $2 million. Sound front single family homes range from $650K to $1.2 million.
