Cape Carteret is located at the intersection of Hwy 24 and 58, on the mainland side of the Emerald Isle Bridge. Only 2.5 square miles in size, this scenic enclave at the edge of Carteret County is definitely worth more than just a passing glance. While Cape Carteret is mostly residential, you’ll also find many antique stores and other unique retailers worth a browse. During the summer, stop by one of the many street-side stands selling fresh fruit and vegetables, including the delicious Bogue watermelons and sweet corn. Explore the warm waters of Bogue Sound by kayak – lessons and rentals are available right in Cape Carteret. Enjoy the beautiful views and fresh air while relaxing on a chartered fishing boat or while teeing off at the Silver Creek or Star Hill Golf Resorts. Cape Carteret borders on Croatan National Forest, a perfect spot for the outdoor enthusiast who loves both fresh/salt water fishing, hunting and camping.

For family fun, be sure to stop by MacDaddy’s, the new Family Entertainment Center located in Cape Carteret. Located on the existing Golfin’ Dolphin property, the complex has 18 holes of miniature golf, driving range, outdoor go-cart track, bumper boats and baseball/softball batting cages. With the addition of 24 lanes of bowling, a sports bar and grill, lounge, billiard room, snack bar, party rooms, banquet rooms and the largest arcade on the Crystal Coast, this is definitely the place with something for everyone in the family!

Get off Hwy 24 and drive around the smaller and more scenic side roads that wind around town to get a sense of the many different neighborhoods available in Cape Carteret. From rural farmland to new subdivisions like Cape Point with contemporary sound front homes with extraordinary views of Bogue Sound, there is definitely a place for all who want to reside in this idyllic coastal town. While most homeowners are year round residents, there are a substantial number of second home and investment properties in the area as well.

The majority of the homes in Cape Carteret are single family residential with average prices ranging from the low 200K to $475K although deals can certainly be found at times for under $200K. Newer, more upscale homes with upgrades and additional amenities start at about $475K and can go upwards of $1,000,000 for a sound front home with panoramic views. For those who enjoy golf, two golf course communities are located in Cape Carteret: one at Silver Creek Plantation and the other at Star Hill. For the many residents who enjoy boating along the beautiful waterways in the area including the White Oak River and Intracoastal Waterway (ICW), there are quite a few waterfront communities in the area including Silver Creek, Hunting Bay, Bluewater Cove, County Club Point, Deer Creek and Star Hill. Many of these subdivisions offer public boat ramps as well as storage.

Carteret County's 2010 - 2011 tax rate of $.23 per $100 of assessed value is the lowest of any county in NC. There are a variety of both public and private schools in the area for resident children. Most children attend White Oak Elementary School, Broad Creek Middle School and Croatan High.
